A great way to focus energy and intent is to create a sacred space for love or passion. A love altar is a wonderful space for manifesting desire, passion and adoration in your life.
I would start by doing a cleansing ritual for the whole space.
Smudging is a popular way to do so. Imagine that the smoke is carrying away anxieties and fear about love, and that this altar is a fresh start. Take a moment to meditate or just focus your thoughts about love, and to center yourself. Since this is a new, clean space, begin to build the altar with an open, clear mind. Play soothing music to set the mood if that helps you get into the right headspace.
Select a table or surface on which to place the altar. It should be pleasing to the eye, out of the reach of children and animals. A good spot for the love altar is in the upper left corner of the room from the door according to feng shui beliefs for love and relationships.
Place pictures on the altar around the back. The most effective photos to use would be, admired couples, pink and red flowers, and things that bring up feelings of romance. Avoid pictures of solitary people, rocks, running water, or things with sharp edges and corners.
Create some tangible intentions by writing down some goals for love.
Write them all in the present tense. For example, “I will be in a relationship by the end of the month” would become “I’m ready for a relationship now.” Place this in the middle of the altar so that it’s easily read.
Place two plants on the altar near each other, promising to tend them. As the plants grow, so does the capacity to love. Plus, living things are good for energy flow. Some good plants are
- Basil: This herb is known to bring passion, love, beauty and luck to your home. Those who grow their own basil and use it in their cooking are said to find an awakened passion. As far as your health goes, basil is an antidepressant, antibacterial and antiseptic miracle plant.
- Jasmine: The oil made from the jasmine plant is an aphrodisiac that can be used to keep the romance in your life alive.
- Miniature roses: Roses are said to have the highest vibration of all living things. They attract love, healing and luck, offer protection and healing, and help with divination of all kinds. Full-size roses are a little ridiculous to grow inside, but miniature roses are quite sturdy and just as beautiful. The color of your rose has a meaning, too. White: Purifying and healing, positive energy. White with red details: Devotion and passion. Peach: Peace, spirituality and friendship. Pink: Romantic love, sweetness, fun and play. Fuchsia: A lust for life, radical self love, deep love and acceptance of your physical body. Lavender: Spirituality. Red: Passionate, deep, true love.
Gather all paired items and position them in a pleasing manner around the altar. Paired items promote relationships, so put as many as desired. This is also a good time to add any stones that are conducive to loving energy.
Some good crystals are:
- Garnet: is known to stimulate sex drive, improve feminine sensuality, and combat depression. Its fiery red shade is said to be symbolic of passion, inspiration, love and romance.
Next, add the two candles. Use red candles if more passion is desired, or pink if romance is the ultimate aim. Light these candles when you meditate in front of the altar.
Add any pictures of religious figures, saints or deities. If desired, ask them to bless this new altar and pray for their presence and wisdom during your search.
Last, burn a stick of incense and take a moment to meditate on this new altar. Burning incense regularly will act to purify the space, and will bring about the peaceful mind-set necessary to invite love into existence.
